I've ditched the usual header for the
moment, I think it doesn't help much anyhow.

guess thats normal.

In the course of time I compiled and tried alot of new graphics
programs like using recent Cg and higher level libraries for all kinds
of interactive graphics. The shader inthe below example is sort of a
trail effect and I made HDR image I made myself work with the Nvidia
OpenGL program below, where the plant image spins in all kinds of ways,
pretty fast and makes beautyfull patterns, which don't come out so well
in a still, but here are two:

I rendered the sponza example from a number of diary pages back with
NVidia's Gelato, which is quite a difference, even though not all
possible lighting models are used, click on the image for a full HD
image

For those who want to try for themselves (if you're up to that) here
are the model files !
sponzatv.tar.gz
I used this 3d model and its rendering in a HD piece of movie (HD
video) where I mixed in 2 (!) additional HD movie pieces, one being a
shader effect recorded from the screen with a camera, the other is a
small piece of an HD recording from an actual fly curtain.
Below, this rendered 1920x1080 pixels frame (click on above for full
resolution image) has been used in a mpeg HD stream (Sony format:
26Mbit/s, 1440x1080, aspect 16:9 interlaced 50 half-frames/s mpeg 2)
using Cinelerra on Redhat Fedora Linux mixed with 2 additional (also
HD) movie segments which are put in place in the image by a perspective
projection effect (probably accelerated) and a scaling and translation:

And this whole is rendered as HD movie with two moving submovies, one
is the beads curtain with 2 motion-tracking rectangles still visible
and the other is a HD recording from a monitor with a graphics
application running which has various 2d and 3d effects applied to a
spaceship 3D model. There is slight rounding visible at the edges of
equal colour planes, because I use the 1440x1080 format, and because I
didn't 'tune' the mpeg coder in this case to make for an even slicker
result, also this preview in Cinelerras compositor window is lighter
(because in still mode it shows the guiding frames with a little higher
contrast) and not as good as playing the movie, depending on the
quality and kind of the HD video file player.
In case somebody wonders: these are
self made movies and renderings,
where the sponza 3D model is
from the internet but everything else is
made by me with the tools indicated, so this is not from somewhere else
as I sometimes write on my diary pages, but ALL self made (except for
the 3D model). The same holds
for below.

I did this dramatic frame as part of a small (seconds in duration) HD
movie piece which is a composition using Cinelerra of a gelato rendered
3D model (froma space model website) and an HD recording I made near
the sea. So this frame is a downscales frame of an actual movie, where
the sea and the bushes and the clouds move, though the robot beast is
stationary.

This was another rendering where the beast is transparent.

A screendump of a machine busy with two high quality videa (not HD)
channels/streams and an interesting playlist.

Here is an example of a HD recording of a fairly fast moving car (with
me not in it, I was 'film'-ing):

The motion of the car and the wheels and the panning of the cam give
rise to motion blur and artifacts (like the well known spinning
backwardsof wheelsin films), but the result does look realistic and
artifacts are limited. The motion blur is nice, look at the white poles
on the left for instance, I don't remember if I used autoshutter.
These image are procesed for extra 70s like effect:

sf tof a bit lousy colour print, but not very boring, like infinite
post processing tends to get.
Frames from HD I shot in the zoo of Amsterdam (Artis):

This is in a park:

looks good filmish.
Without printing it, I tried this:

A try-out movie poster from a movie frame with some text. All the above
were of course filmed/photographed by me, and processed by me.
To match a good film I can try surround even in real time, with Linux:

Shown are jack, the better linux sound and midi control program, and 4
Dx-7 emulation program instances, each fed to another speaker, which of
course gives a nice spatial, 'surround' sound.
"The first american woman to bite the dust in a duel"

Aint that the best? Come on, motherf*s....
I´ve tried to find the apart in the West side story
where one of the main figures sais to one of the ohters "your mother is
a whore" to really piss off a rivalling gang leader. Somehow I then
need to think about my family and another commonity like christians and
"sex before marriage", and all the corrupted variations on such
themes.
As a kid we used to have I think this record at home, I though
"summertime" was interesting but the whole sounded somehow warning that
I didn´t quite understand at the time
Porgy and Bess
Gerswin
Very dramaticm I surely didn´t think about the black music being
drawn in the New Age "rule the world" theme at the time.
The black
madonna in pictures? Or not, I don´t know.
Probably even a harder subject, as in more like rock:
American
Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America , Chris
Hedges (see this interview
too)
Well I firmly believe these forces are at work, though it may be not
popular to say that, I recognize the christian ideas, like also on the
God channel or so.
I´m trying to start to take in the highest artform in the world I
guess (when it includes top music) and sure the most complicated:
cinema.

Not a frame made by me! All others except form obvious books or films
are, but this one struck me as interesting movie frame from the
rietveld academie ( Jessica
Kälbermann ) which is an art acedemy where also movies are
made. Honestly it looks like these are actual movies with human
subjects (as it becomes artists) while the ones which I glanced at from
the official movie academy are very sadening.
Hillary, you don´t win of me........
Google Earth
Its not really permitted but lets hope a tiny piece of trivial earth
may be revealed this way as not too unfair use:

Its where I grew up, the trees just below the middle I would see from
my bedroom window. Great to look at the earth this way. This picture I
made myself of an artwork in amsterdam, oh no probably its a chidrens
climbing toy or so:

Funy enough google has picked it up from the sky, too:

Looks better than a windmill from below, I guess, though that isn't
dreadfull either:

Its a dump from a piee of HD video which was exiting to make because of
the moving part.

I found a midi file playing the song nice enough here: http://members.lycos.nl/blaospiepel/blaospiepel/midi's.htm
(
wasmasjien.mid
), and I played with it on the Linux sequencer Rosegarden using various
instruments, and made various mixes with effects, in fact I tried some
surround mixes but found out I could not just get a reverb on the back,
which sucked.
Well, as people who do these things know, this is hard to make work
good, to make it nice enough aand 'working' music such that the joke
works, people feel according to the lyrics and general idea, and such
that the result sounds first of all good and preferably a bit pro or
like a party band, which is also great. To get that rythm sych that
people may want to dance is probably even harder. Even disco-type
dancing is very hard, I mean to make something that imitates a war
marching rythm or basic walz isn't beyond drum lesson 20 or so in its
basic form, but a real groove like Earth Wind an Fire or even this song
but then such that it really works is beyond simple hobyism!
See the next diary page for demonstration
renderings of this midi file, with mpeg sound examples.
BIM House performance, Amsterdam
I was at the new Bim Huis in
Amsterdam the other day, which probably was the first time to have been
to the place. It used to be in the center of amsterdam, now it is
near the water in the same building as the IJ music theater, rather
prestigeous, though not a pitoresque site. The big hal has a very big
window at the back, looking out over the city and the train, there's
significant equipment, and tuesday night is workshow/jam session night,
like here on the picture:

a jazz band playing three songs with improvisation. The workshop let
various people and groups with interaction of a session leader
improvise (all Jazz should be the idea). The session from 22:00 onward
is open for anyone in principle where jamming is done in a relaxed and
mellow way mostly.
Of course that principle is great, I suppose before the current Blue
Note in New York and in the time of early jazz and blues it was that
way in the US, too, maybe still, hopefully. I suppose there is a big
difference with some community centre workshop and a top artist
collective performance (apart from pay), this is somewhere in betwen,
though some people are more in the first category, which is fine: music
should be promoted in these times.
I guess I've boosted the level near the end of the session by joining
in a not too short jam around the well known 'All Blues' piece after
suggesting real Jazz should have a strong foundation in Blues, and it
was great to sit at the grand piano (a moderately amplified excellent
Steinberg) get the collected band members to do jazzy swing with all
blues chords and do some soloing after setting up some harmonies and
rythms and listening to some of the musicians.
Joe Lovano (by now pretty well known fusion-jaz saxophone player from
the US) which I photographed
at North Sea Jazz, who played on well known John Scofield albums
performed in the bim house last month (not at sessions of course).
NASA High Definition Video
On nasa´s main website there are a few High Definition (much more
accurate than normal video) for free downloading, this is a frame from
one about the new moon-inhabitance program:

Looks great on an HD screen, and also on a (720HD) beamer. It is a bit
artificial though, with sharpness tricks which are not necessarily good
for cinematographical pictures. Maybe I´l make a page about the
subject one day, it´s very difficult territory once sampling and
correct filtering are included, lets say I did an advanced PhD course
in multidimensional sigal processing at uni at the time, and that
wouldn´t be enough.
other american pictures:
Just a bit more inland from the the west coast (picture from wikipedia
IIRC):

These pictures are from I think estate dealers in California probably
San Francisco or Sousalito (to the north of SF), for long already this
would be my favorite place on earth to live. That would take me as EE
about $400,000 , while I´m somewhere in the red (though probably
not even a small portion of such anount), because no way I could thus
far reasonably work after I left/got kicked out my last full time
university job about a decade ago. All hell is freezing over fast ? No,
I think everything has gone wrong since the clinton years (every seen
Damien 2?) and though I did other things (jobs) in the meanwhile they
were not at my scientific or EE level at all and pay seems to be cursed
in this land, during my study (which I finished with good grades and in
the most forward section of probably just about the whole university) I
was informed during a human interest course that an average EE when
about 40 (as I am now) should earn enough to live in such a house, but
I make none at the moment, though I sure did a lot of work.

Something theoretical about making enough to live there (liek picture
above) ? No, that looks absolutely great and in thouch with all my
fundamental believes!
Or even this:
a house-boat near the bay, looks smashing though odd.
Picture of the month, guess who made it ?

also in CA.
